I did my mission last week in the Balaybay Resettlement site, a goverment proposed project where more than 500 people affected by the Mount Pinatubo eruption of 1991 were relocated for post-disaster recovery. It has been over a decade since the incident but with little economical advancement and available secondary resources, this area has shown only non-significant improvements. Due to failure of this resettlement process, more than half of the population is lost from fleeting and now, less than 50 families reside in the area. I hope I can visit them again sooner than later. And hopefully, the next time will be more than just giving. Thanks to the kids, I learned a new term of “merrymas.”
